Aquaman 2's Epic Audience Participation Scene

Posted:

About a year ago I dreamed that I went to see Aquaman 2 at a big, fancy movie theater that had beds instead of seats.

When the movie got to what was supposed to be an epic battle scene, light fixtures detached from the ceiling and dropped next to each audience member.  Miraculously nobody was injured.  Next to each bed was a pickle ball paddle, which Jason Mamoa from the silverscreen encouraged the audience to pick up and use to help win the battle by batting pieces of broken light fixtures at the screen, as if we were launching boulders at the enemy barrier in the film.

The side walls of the theater consisted of golf ball netting separating it from other theaters.  The netting hung without bottom anchors, so I tried to see how far under the netting I could propel debris.  As I knocked pieces off my light fixture with a pickle ball paddle, it occurred to me that not only was this very unsafe, but Aquaman 2 was indeed a very dull film if it had to resort to this kind of audience participation to be interesting.

Full disclosure:  To this day I still haven't seen Aquaman 2, or even its trailer.
