Die Ärzte - Frank'n'Stein
Frank'n'Stein | Frank'n'Stein
Das Ding ging wieder in die Hose | Everything went wrong again
Obwohl ich alle Mittel hab' | Although I have all the means
Was bin ich für ein mieser Frankenstein | What a crummy Frankenstein I am
Ja, mein Vorfahr dreht sich um in seinem Grab | Yeah, my ancestor is spinning in his grave
Was soll ich tun? (Was soll er tun?) | What should I do? (What should he do?)
Ich weiß doch wie es geht (Was soll er tun?) | I do know how it goes (What should he do?)
Nochmal von vorn (Was soll er tun?) | Again from the beginning (What should he do?)
Es ist noch nicht zu spät | It's still not too late
Es steht doch alles in den Büchern! | Indeed it's in all the books
Und ich habe Mittel, wie niemals zuvor | And I've got means like never before
Wär ich doch Astronaut geworden | If I'd become an Astronaut
Ja, dann käm' ich mir nicht so bescheuert vor | Yeah, then I wouldn't seem so crackbrained
Was soll ich tun? (Was soll er tun?) | What should I do? (What should he do?)
Das war jetzt viel zu viel (Was soll er tun?) | That was just much too much (What should he do?)
Als Sahnie Nummer drei (Was soll er tun?) | As Sahnie Number Three (What should he do?)
Sofort zu Asche zerfiel | Immeadiately fell to ashes
Oh-ho-ho — ein neuer Tag bricht an | Oh-ho-ho — a new day is breaking
Oh-ho-ho — ein neuer Tag bricht an | Oh-ho-ho — a new day is breaking
Oh-ho-ho — ein neuer Tag bricht an | Oh-ho-ho — a new day is breaking
Oh-ho-ho — ein neuer Tag bricht an | Oh-ho-ho — a new day is breaking
Farin | Farin | |
(Gitarrensolo) | (Guitar solo)
Go, Farin, go | Go, Farin, go
Raow | Raow | |
Ich glaub', es ist jetzt Zeit zum Aufhör'n | I think it's time to call it quits
Denn auch Monster Nummer vier klappte nicht | Because Monster Number Four didn't work either
Ich baute eine Frau zum Zeitvertreib | I built a woman to pass the time
Doch sie stieß mich weg, denn sie war wählerisch | But she cast me off, because she was choosy
Was soll ich tun? (Was soll er tun?) | What should I do? (What should he do?)
Sie war, wie's mir gefällt (Was soll er tun?) | She was how I like it (What should he do?)
Doch ich vergaß (Was soll er tun?) | But I forgot (What should he do?)
Ihr Gehirn war von 'nem Fotomodell | Her brain was from a photo model
Oh-ho-ho — ein neuer Tag bricht an | Oh-ho-ho — a new day is breaking
Oh-ho-ho — ein neuer Tag bricht an | Oh-ho-ho — a new day is breaking
Oh-ho-ho — ein neuer Tag bricht an | Oh-ho-ho — a new day is breaking
Oh-ho-ho — ein neuer Tag bricht an | Oh-ho-ho — a new day is breaking
Bricht an | Breaking |
I originally thought this song was an innuendo for impotence, maybe because of Alice Cooper's Feed My Frankenstein which was very much the opposite. Couple that with one of the other songs in the album clearly being about a woman who enjoy's her “lap dog's” company too much, and can you blame me? I'd listened to Frank'n'Stein for 10 years before it one day suddenly clicked in my brain that it really was just about a descendant of Doctor Frankenstein trying to continue his experiments of reanimating the dead.
The song opens with, “Das Ding ging wieder in die Hose!” which translates literally into, “The thing went into the pants again!” “In die Hose gehen” is an idiom for, "everything going wrong,” like, “Everything's gone south!” but in the context of the song I took it to mean the song's protagonist couldn't get it up. He's got “means like never before” but “Sahnie #3 immediately fell to ashes” and “Monster #4 didn't work either” all sounds like he used special intimacy helps that didn't work. And then when he “built a woman to pass the time” I somehow interpreted that to mean he drove her to boredom with his inability to satisfy her.
Sahnie was a member of Die Ärzte in the early days of the band, ergo Sahnie #3 would be the third iteration of a Frankenstein's monster named Sahnie. Farin Urlaub is another bandmember's name.
